Dear Mr. Parker:
NSIC TERA We have reviewed your November 3, 1981 request for authorization to use ASME Code Case N-19-2(1481-2), "Elevated Temperature Design of Section III, Division 1, Class 2 and 3 Components," for the design of the Standby Shutdown Facility (SSF) diesel generator exhaust piping at the Oconee Nuclear Station This request was prompted by the need for higher temperature stress values then tabulated in ASME Section III, since the exhaust temperatures are predicted to be 800aF and the allowable stresses are tabulated to only 700*F.
We recognize that there is limited guidance for elevated tempet ature design criteria and agree with your opinion that the allowable stress yalues obtained through the use of this Code Case will provide an acceptable design. Therefoqe we authorize the use of Code Case N-19-2 of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code for use in the piping and support/restraint design and analysis for the SSF diesel generator exhausf piping at the Oconee Nuclear Station.
