OCONEE NUCLEAR STATION REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION SMALL BREAK ECCS MODIFICATIONS (DUKE JULY 14, 1978 SUBMITTAL)

1. Provide the following additional information relative to your proposal to modify the High Pressure Injection System at the Oconee Station:
a. Do cross-over valves HP-116 and HP-117 remain closed? If not, when would they be opened?
b. If during the ECCS injection mode the flow path to the RC pump seals has to be closed, describe how this is accomplished.
c.

The piping tie-in from the proposed cross-connect lines to the existing injection system is downstream of flow meters 1FT7 and 1FT8. How can the operator e assured sufficient flow is reaching the core?

d. Is any manipulation of the HPI system valving required for flow balancing after receipt of the ECCS injection signal?
2. You stated in the July 14 submittal that the electrically operated valves HPI-X and HPI-Y will have the motor operators powered by a source of power supply independent of that supplying power to the HPI-A and HPI-B flow trains. In regard to the electrical system, identify the buses to which all the HPI valves are connected (i.e. HP-24, -25, -26, -27, -X and -Y).

FSAR drawings may be referenced. Provide the channel classification of these valves.

Describe the provisions or procedures to ensure that valves HP-98 and HP-115 remain in the open position.
