REPORT ASSOCIATED WITH THE STAFF'S REVIEW OF THE APPLICATION BY DUKE ENERGY FOR RENEWAL OF THE OPERATING LICENSES FOR THE OCONEE NUCLEAR STATION, UNITS 1, 2, & 3 (TAC NOS. M99162, M99163, M99164, and M99183)
Dear Mr. McCollum:
On October 19, 1998, the'Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) held two public environmental scoping meetings in Clemson, South Carolina in support of the NRC staff's review of the application for renewal of the Oconee Nuclear Station Units 1, 2, and 3, submitted by Duke Energy on July 6, 1998.
The scoping process, of which the public meetings were a part, is the first step in the development of a plant-specific supplement to the Generic Environmental Impact Statement for License Renewal of Nuclear Plants for Oconee Nuclear Station.
The NRC staff has prepared an environmental scoping summary report identifying comments received in writing and at the October 19, 1998, Oconee license renewal environmental scoping meeting. In accordance with 10 CFR 51.29(b), you are being provided a copy of the scoping summary report. The transcripts of the meetings can be found on the world wide web at http://www.nrc.gov/NRC/PUBLIC/LR/oconee.html. The next step in the process is issuance of a draft supplement to the GEIS scheduled for June 1999. Notice of the availability of the draft supplement to the GEIS and the procedures for providing comments will be published in an upcoming Federal Register notice.
