1799 Simpson Brook Road Townshend, VT, 05353 Email: tumbull@together.net General Comment Thankfully the State of Vermont is putting up a decent fight to maintain as much of the EPZ as possible, at least until the elevated Spent Fuel Pool is emptied of irradiated fuel rod assemblies by moving them to dry cask storage. VY's crammed-full waste fuel pool remains dangerous. See NUREG-1738 Technical Study of Spent.
Fuel Pool Accident Risk at Decommissioning. Nuclear Power Plants at http://pbadupws.nrc.gov/docs/ML0104/ML010430066.pdf.
It's pure folly to think anything other than radioactive materials would leave the VY site if the fuel pool were drained of the water needed to cool the hot fuel and shield its radioactivity.
