NRC SPECIAL INSPECTION REPORT NOS. 50-269/97-17, 50-270/97-17, AND
50-287/97-17
Dear Mr. McCollum:
On December 4. 1997, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) completed an
inspection at your Oconee facility. The enclosed report presents the results
of that inspection.
The purpose of this inspection was to determine the adequacy of the root cause
investigation and corrective actions for an October 30, 1997 event involving
the unauthorized access of individuals into a vital area. The investigation
S
established that the event occurred and a root cause identified. Once the
event was detected, immediate corrective action was implemented. After a
review of the event, the NRC found the root cause analysis and immediate and
intermediate corrective actions appropriate.
According to 10 CFR 2.790 of the NRC's "Rules of Practice." a copy of this
letter, and its enclosure will be placed in the NRC Public Document Room
(PDR).
