OCONEE NUCLEAR STATION, UNITS 1, 2, AND 3 RE: AUDIT REPORT ON THE YEAR 2000 CONTINGENCY PLANNING PROGRAM, (TAC NOS. MA1863, MA1864, AND MA1865)

Dear Mr. McCollum:

On June 8 and 9, 1999, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff conducted an audit of the Year 2000 (Y2K) Readiness Contingency Planning Program at the Oconee Nuclear Station, Units 1, 2, and 3, as a follow up to NRC Generic Letter 98-01, "Year 2000 Readiness of Computer Systems at Nuclear Power Plants," issued on May 11, 1998. The enclosed report presents the results of the audit. The results of this audit and subsequent audits at other selected nuclear power plants will be used by the staff to determine the need for additional action, if any, on Y2K readiness for nuclear power plants.

In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the NRC's "Rules of Practice," a copy of this letter and its enclosure will be placed in the NRC Public Document Room. Please contact me at, 301-415 1472 if you have any questions or comments on the enclosed audit report.
