No: IV-15-009 April 1, 2015 CONTACT: Victor Dricks (817) 200-1128 Lara Uselding (817) 200-1519 NRC Schedules Regulatory Conference to Discuss Apparent Violation at Waterford 3 The Nuclear Regulatory Commission will meet with officials from Entergy Operations on April 7 to discuss a preliminary inspection finding associated with the reliability of the plants emergency diesel generators. The plant is located in Killona, La.

The 9 a.m. meeting at the NRCs Region IV office at 1600 E. Lamar Blvd., Arlington, Texas, is open to the public. NRC officials will answer questions from the public after the business portion of the conference. A telephone bridge will be available for the meeting by calling 1-888-957-9871 and entering passcode 2489913.

The NRC evaluates regulatory performance at commercial nuclear plants with a color-coded process that classifies inspection findings as green, white, yellow or red in order of increasing safety significance. The NRC has preliminarily determined that the inspection finding has greater than very low (green) safety significance which may require additional inspections, regulatory actions and oversight.

The finding is associated with a vent pipe on the roof of a building that had corrosion that could allow rainwater to contaminate fuel oil for the plants emergency diesel generators, affecting their operability. The generators are used to supply back-up power for safety-related systems in the event of a loss of off-site power. The violation is identified in an NRC inspection report issued on Jan 22.

No decision on the final safety significance of the finding or any additional NRC actions will be made at the conference. That decision will be announced at a later time.
