UNITED STATES OF AMERICA NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION BEFORE THE ATOMIC SAFETY AND LICENSING BOARD In the Matter of: ) Docket No. 50-341-LR DTE Electric Company ) ASLBP No. 14-933-01-LR-BD01 Fermi Nuclear Reactor, Unit 2 ) 1 April 2015 CRAFT REQUEST FOR CHANGE OF VENUE Now comes Citizens Resistance At Fermi 2 to request a change of venue for the public hearing on DTE Electrics request for a 20-year license extension of the Fermi 2 nuclear reactors operating license.
Monroe is a company town with most of the people either working for DTE at the reactor or the coal-fired facility, or have relatives who are. Therefore, those people are very reluctant to even attend a hearing and learn what may be the bigger threat to their family, and jobs.
All the NRC proceedings have always been held in Monroe, but CRAFT knows no law that states the hearing has to be held in the belly of the whale. Therefore, we respectfully request that the public hearing be held at a Community College or County Court House outside of Monroe County, while still in the 50-mile radius.
We suggest the Detroit area, which would be more accessible to not only those Americans living within the 50-mile radiation zone, but also to members of Walpole Island First Nation and our Canadian neighbors who are also within the danger zone.
