February 18, 2015 ULNRC-06192 U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Attn: Document Control Desk Washington, DC 20555-0001 NRC Order EA-12-049 Ladies and Gentlemen:

DOCKET NUMBER 50-483 CALLAWAY PLANT UNIT 1 UNION ELECTRIC CO.

FACILITY OPERATING LICENSE NPF-30 RETRACTION OF REQUEST FOR RELAXATION FROM NRC ORDER EA-12-049

2. ULNRC-06135, "Third Six-Month Status Report in Response to March 12, 2012 Commission Order Modifying Licenses with Regard to Requirements for Mitigation Strategies for Beyond-Design-Basis External Events (Order Number EA-12-049),"

dated August 28, 2014 On August 1, 2014, Union Electric Co. (dba Ameren Missouri) submitted a request for relaxation (Reference 1) of the requirements contained in Order EA-12-049. The request concerned the design of the FLEX storage building roll-up door(s) and "hardened" Condensate Storage Tank(s) (CST) to be constructed at the Callaway Plant in response to the Order, specifically in regard to the use of Regulatory Guide (RG) 1.76 Revision 1.

However, based on conversations between the NRC and Ameren Missouri held in August 2014, Ameren Missouri is retracting the request. It was determined that the use of RG 1. 76 Revision 1 for the construction of the new hardened CST(s) and FLEX storage building was a deviation from NEI 12-06, and that deviations from NEI 12-06 do not require a relaxation request. Such deviations, including the use of any alternate methods from NEI 12-06, are required to be reported in the next six-month
