SUMMARY
OF SEPTEMBER 10, 2014, PUBLIC MEETING WITH THE BOILING WATER REACTOR OWNERS GROUP On September 10, 2014, U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff met with representatives of the Boiling Water Reactor Owners Group (BWROG) in a public meeting at NRC headquarters in Rockville, Maryland. The enclosure provides a list of those in attendance and those that participated by teleconference. Information presented at the meeting by the BWROG representatives is available in the Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) at Accession No. ML14247A010.
The purpose of the meeting was for the NRC staff and the BWROG to discuss the status of the resolution of the Boiling Water Reactor (BWR) emergency core cooling system (ECCS) suction strainer (SS) issues.
Opening remarks were made for the BWROG by Mr. Don Gregoire of Energy Northwest.
Mr. Gregoire provided introductory remarks which included meeting objectives and a discussion overview for the meeting.
Mr. Steve Scammon of Energy Northwest and ECCS SS Committee Chairman provided a project update since the last public meeting held on April 30, 2014 (meeting summary at ADAMS Accession No. ML14122A177). This included a discussion of second, third, and fourth quarter 2014 BWROG submittals, adjustments to the Benchtop Test Program (associated with the ongoing invessel downstream effects issue), and discussion about the new risk-informed committee.
Mr. Greg Broadbent, Entergy, provided a briefing concerning downstream effects fuels subcommittee update. This included some discussion of the NRC Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations (10 CFR) 50.46c rulemaking effort and industry coordination. An update of the efforts of the BWROG Head Loss Subcommittee was given by Mr. Scammon.

A. Mendiola Mr. Tony Borger, PPL Susquehanna, Debris Source Term Subcommittee Chairman for the BWROG provided an update on debris source term related issues. Mr. Bradley Tyres of Exelon and the Downstream Effects Components Subcommittee Chairman for the BWROG provided an update on the future activities in this area which are scheduled to commence in 2017.
Dr. Ludwig of Haber of Alden Research Laboratory provided more discussion of the Benchtop Test Program and the use by the BWROG of a request for additional information (RAI)
Roadmap to be used as a tool to help navigate the complexities of the NRC staffs RAI questions that were generated with regard to the review of GE Hitachi Licensing Topical Report NEDC-33608P, Boiling Water Reactor Emergency Core Cooling Suction Strainer In-Vessel Downstream Effects (Nuclear Fuel).
After this, Mr. Mike Iannantuono of GE Hitachi and BWROG Project Manager for the ECCS SS effort facilitated a status update on the NRC-BWROG Submittals Review and Prioritization Schedule.
