IN THE MATTER OF CAROLINA POWER AND LIGHT COMPANY (BRUNSWICK STEAM ELECTRIC PLANT NO. 1 & 2, AND H. B. ROBINSON STEAM ELECTRIC PLANT UNIT NO. 2), DOCKET NOS. 50-325; 50-324 AND 50-261 We have reviewed the Carolina Power and Light Company's requests for a hearing dated June 17 and June 26, 1981 regarding the Environmental Qualification of Safety Related Electrical-Equipment. As you will recall, members of the NRC staff contacted you on June 30, 1981 to discuss these hearing requests. It was our understanding of that conversation that you considered it acceptable for us to ho8d your requests in abeyaoce until 90 days after the date 6f issuance of the Safety Evaluations for the facilities. This interim period would allow additional feedback from the NRC staff concerning the issues you raised in your requests. At or befote '

the end of the interim period, you will advise us, in writing, of whether you intend to pursue your hearing requests and what specific issues you intend to to raise in the proceeding.

Please confirm as soon as practicable that our understanding is correct.
