INSERVICE INSPECTION RELIEF REQUESTS NO. 19 and 20 - H. B. ROBINSON STEAM ELECTRIC PLANT, UNIT NO. 2 (TAC NO 72250)
By letter dated February 1, 1989, Carolina Power & Light Company (CP&L) requested relief from certain inservice examination requirements at H. B.
Robinson Steam Electric Plant, Unit No. 2. Specifically, CP&L requested relief from the examination requirements of Section XI of the ASME Code for certain items of the reactor vessel, the pressurize, steam generator cladding and the regeneration heat exchanger welds.
CP&L has stated that conformance with the Code requirements is impractical because of radiation exposure considerations. We have determined, pursuant to 10 CFR 50.55 a(g)(6)(i), that granting of relief is authorized by law, will not endanger life or property or the common defense and security, and is otherwise in the public interest. In makeing this determination, the staff has given due consideration to the burden upon the licensee that could result if the requirements were imposed on the facility. This letter grants the relief.
