SUBJECT:
ENVIRONMENTAL QUALIFICATION (EQ) AND SAFETY SYSTEM FUNCTIONAL INSPECTION (SSFI) FOLLOW-UP ISSUES A meeting was held in the NRC Region II Office on May 19, 1987, to discuss Robinson EQ and SSFI issues prior to plant start-up.
The licensee discussed the on-going activities involved in the EQ Program.
A detailed discussion was conducted on the containment cable qualification verification effort, specifically addressing the scope of the task, documentation reviews, walkdowns and evaluations.
The end product of this effort is the establishment of reasonable assurance that qualified cable is in place inside containment.
The licensee also addressed the EQ work being performed prior to criticality in the following areas: Crouse Hinds connectors, pigtail splices, conduit seals, and Raychem splices.
The licensee completed their presentation with a brief discussion on the status of two SSFI issues: station battery sizing and EDG room ventilation.
The NRC concluded the meeting by stating that the overall EQ and SSFI effort appeared to be progressing satisfactorily, but that the containment cable qualification verification effort appeared to need more research prior to restart.
An agreement was reached to maintain close contact between CP&L and the NRC as this issue progressed.
