MCGUIRE NUCLEAR STATION, UNITS 1 AND 2: REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION REGARDING FLOOD HAZARD REEVALUATION REPORT (TAC NOS. MF3623 AND MF3624).

Dear Mr. Capps:

By letter dated March 12, 2014 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) Accession No. ML14083A415), Duke Energy Carolinas, LLC (the licensee) submitted a flood hazard reevaluation report for the McGuire Nuclear Station. This report was submitted in response to Enclosure 2 of the Fukushima lessons learned information request (ADAMS Accession No. ML12053A340).

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff has reviewed your submittal and determined that additional information is needed in order to complete our review. The enclosed document describes this request for additional information (RAI). On May 22, 2014, the Duke staff indicated that a response to the RAI would be provided by June 23, 2014.

REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION MCGUIRE NUCLEAR STATION, UNITS 1.AND 2 FLOOD HAZARD REEVALUATION REPORT DOCKET NOS. 50-369 AND 50-370 By letter dated March 12, 2014, (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) Accession No. ML14083A415), Duke Energy Carolinas (Duke) submitted a Flooding Hazard Reevaluation Report (FHRR) in response to Enclosure 2 of the March 12, 2012, Fukushima Lessons Learned 50.54(f) letter. In order for the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff to complete its review of the LAR, the following additional information is requested.

1. Please submit electronic versions of input and output files for the following activities:
a. Calculations of Locally Intense Precipitation (LIP), Probable Maximum Precipitation, Probable Maximum Flood, dam breach, storm surge, and combined effects flooding.
b. The Info Works CS (IWCS) model used for LIP site surface depth analysis.
c. The HEC-RAS model used foneservoir PMF routing and dam break analysis.
d. The Coastal Engineering Design and Analysis (CEDAS) forwind-driven wave heights.
e. The COULWAVE model for evaluating overtopping.
