SUBJECT:

FORT CALHOUN STATION, UNIT NO.1- TRANSMITTAL OF U.S. ARMY CORPS OF ENGINEERS FLOOD HAZARD REEVALUATION INFORMATION (TAC NO. MF3036)

Dear Mr. Cortopassi:

The purpose of this letter is to transmit the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) portion of the Fort Calhoun Station, Unit No. 1 (FCS) flood hazard reevaluation (FHR) associated with the assessment of flood hazards due to flooding in streams and rivers, including potential site flooding due to dam failure. In a letter dated August 26, 2013 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) Accession No. ML13240A128), Omaha Public Power District (OPPD) requested assistance from the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) in obtaining information from the USACE to support OPPD's development of an FHR response to the March 12, 2012, request for information (ADAMS Accession No. ML12073A348). In a letter dated September 17, 2013 (ADAMS Accession No. ML13241A216), the NRC informed OPPD that it was contracting with the USACE directly to perform portions of the FHR.

The NRC letter dated September 17, 2013, provided details on the portion of the FHR that would be performed by the USACE. This USACE portion of the FHR was further discussed in a meeting on December 17, 2013, with OPPD, USACE, and the NRC as documented in a meeting summary dated February 10, 2014 (ADAMS Accession No. ML14031A162). The enclosures to this letter contains the results of the USACE FHR performed in accordance with interim staff guidance JLD-ISG-2013-01, "Guidance For Assessment of Flooding Hazards Due to Dam Failure," Revision 0, dated July 29, 2013 (ADAMS Accession No. ML13151A153).

Enclosure 1 contains the relevant USACE results at FCS, which OPPD needs to consider as part of its flood hazard evaluation report. The USACE results are based on JLD-ISG-2013-01 and USACE knowledge of the river system. Enclosure 2 is a compact disk of the results at the river mile locations you requested as documented in the February 10, 2014, meeting summary.

The USACE results contained in Enclosure 1 are a subset of the information contained in Enclosure 2.

Enclosures 1 and 2 to this letter contain Security-Related Information. When separated from the enclosures, this letter is DECONTROLLED.
