Docket Nos. 50-206, 50-361, and 50-362 SCE Corporate Restructuring San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station Units 1, 2, and 3 The purpose of this letter is to provide supplemental information to that contained in SCE's August 25, 1987 request for NRC consent to a proposed plan of corporate restructuring. The details of the restructuring plan were described in the request for consent.
The purpose of the restructuring is twofold.
First, a holding company corporate structure will provide clear separation between the utility and non-utility lines of business currently conducted by SCE, thereby insulating utility ratepayers from any risks associated with unregulated ventures and facilitating state and federal regulatory review of utility operations. Second, the proposed reorganization will enhance the ability of management to respond to non-utility business opportunities as they arise.
This flexibility will improve the financial strength and stability of the overall corporation.
