F. R. Nandy (SCE) to Document Control Desk (NRC) Letter dated June 15, 1989 This letter provides confirmation of the NRC's assumption that Southern California Edison (SCE) would not install Westinghouse Steam Generator Tube Mecanical Plugs from heat numbers 3279, 3513, 3962 and 4523 in San Onofre Units 2 and 3.

Reference 1 requested Licensees to determine whether certain mechanical plugs supplied by Westinghouse had been installed in their steam generators and if so, that an action plan be implemented to ensure that these plugs will continue to provide adequate assurance of reactor coolant system (RCS) pressure boundary integrity under normal operating, transient, and postulated accident conditions. Reference 2 provided our response which stated that while Unit 1 had 231 steam generator plugs from the subject heats installed, Units 2 and 3 do not have steam generator plugs from these heats installed.

The response provided a description of the actions that SCE will take to respond to the bulletin requirements for the 231 subject plugs installed in Unit 1 and a committment not to install Westinghouse plugs from the subject heats in San Onofre Unit 1 in the future.

Document Control Desk January 2, 1990 In the NRC's October 16, 1989 response, the NRC stated that they assumed that such a commitment for Units 2 and 3 was implicit in SCE's June 19, 1989 letter. As stated above, this letter provides confirmation that SCE will not install Westinghouse Steam Generator Tube Mechanical Plugs from heat numbers 3279, 3513, 3962 and 4523 in San Onofre Units 2 and 3.
