Docket No. 50-206 Amendment Application No. 173 San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station Unit 1 Enclosed is Amendment Application No. 173 to Provisional Operating License No. DPR-13. Amendment Application No. 173 consists of Proposed Change No. 212 which is a request to revise License Condition 3.E to allow a one time extension of the steam generator inservice inspection surveillance interval.
As I indicated in my October 2, 1989 letter, we have commenced work to support a combined Cycle 11 refueling and thermal shield repair outage beginning June 30, 1990. Also as stated in that letter, scheduling of the steam generator inservice inspection to coincide with the June 30, 1990 start of the Cycle 11 refueling outage requires an extension of the inservice inspection technical specification surveillance interval.
In accordance with the technical specifications, the next steam generator inspection is currently required to be performed by March 7, 1990. The purpose of this amendment is to obtain NRC approval for a one time extension of the steam generator inspection interval.
We would be pleased to discuss this item with the NRC staff and to provide any additional information which may be required in order to facilitate timely approval.
