Docket No. 50-206 Steam Generator Overfill Protection System Generic Letter 89-19 San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station, Unit 1 This letter reschedules our submittal concerning a plant specific evaluation to determine the need for a steam generator overfill protection system for SONGS 1. This submittal was the result of Generic Letter 89-19, "Request for Action Related to Resolution of Unresolved Safety Issue A-47."
The SONGS 1 evaluation of the proposed steam generator overfill protection system requires the use of probabilistic risk assessment (PRA) models to assess the risk impact of installation. To obtain the most realistic assessment possible, we are using the PRA models presently being updated to support our individual plant examination (IPE) for SONGS 1, as required by Generic Letter 88-20. These updated IPE models will not be fully reviewed and approved until shortly before our scheduled IPE submittal date of April 2, 1992. Based on this, we find it necessary to reschedule the submittal of our evaluation results concerning the steam generator overfill protection system from November 22, 1991 to coincide with our IPE submittal on April 2, 1992.
