This will acknowledge receipt of your June 23, 1987, letter to Mr. John B.
Martin that transmitted the complete.scenario packagetfor the.SONGS Annual Emergency Exercise to be held in August 1987.
On July 24, 1987, Ms. Gail Good of my'ftaff 'held a 'teT Ohone conversation with Mr. Keith de Lancey to discuss the results of our review of the scenario package.
Our review disclosed that there were 2a4inuber of plant paiameter and radiological/meteorological data inconsistencies. Additionally, some inconsistencies were noted between the scope (actions to be simulated) and the exercise objectives. During the telephone conversation, Mr. de Lancey agreed to correct the inconsistencies and provided clarification of several other issues. It is our understanding that these changes, and any other changes occurring between now and the date of the exercise, will be provided to the NRC team members before the exercise.
The contents of the scenario package were discussed with FEMA, Region IX, personnel. It is our understanding that their comments have already been provided to you.
Pending the corrections mentioned above, it is our conclusion that the scenario package is adequate to permit you to meet the exercise objectives.
We acknowledge that the objectives provided in the'scenar o package have been modified since the original transmittal of May 4, 1987 and that these modifications were as described in my letter 'to Mr K. P Baskin, dated June 17, 1987.
