Southern California Edison Actions Related to NFS-4 Shipping Cask This letter relates to the telephone discussion on October 1, 1980 between Mr. J. Curran of your staff and Mr. F. A. Wenslawski of this office concerning radioactive material shipping cask Model No. NFS-4, Serial No. NAC-1E.

Based on this discussion we understand that:

1. The cask is presently closed in.a manner to prevent the release of any radioactive material contained within the cask.
2. You will not remove the cask from the restricted area, open, or work on the cask in any manner without prior NRC approval.
3. You will promptly contact those individuals involved in the September 4, 1980 opening of the cask and make measurements of possible radioactivity in their bodies and, as appropriate, measurement of radioactivity excreted from their bodies so that you may evaluate their exposure in accordance with 10 CFR 20.103.

4. You will assure the 55-gallon drum containing waste from the September 4, 1980 operation on the cask is not shipped off site, and that it is handled in a manner consistent with the exposure hazard.

Should my understanding as stated above not be correct, you should notify this office promptly in writing.
