Subject:

Docket No. 50-206 Systematic Evaluation Program San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station Unit 1 By letter dated March 28, 1980, the NRC staff requested information regarding the LOCA containment pressure and temperature analysis for San Onofre Unit 1. The Containment Post Accident Pressure Reanalysis for San Onofre Unit 1 was provided to the NRC as Enclosure 1 to our letter dated January 19, 1977. Provided as an enclosure to this letter are the references to that reanalysis for the information requested by the staff.

ENCLOSURE RESPONSE TO NRC REQUEST FOR DATA NECESSARY TO CALCULATE CONTAINMENT TEMPERATURE AND PRESSURE DECAY TIME Containment Post Accident Pressure Reanalysis, Enclosure I to SCE letter dated January 19, 1977.

A.

Containment Net Free Volume On page 1-8 in Ta e I the containment net free volume is indicated as being 1.21 X 10 ft.'.

B.

Passive Heat Sinks On pages 1-11 through 1-14 in Table 3 the containment structural heat sinks are identified and described.

C.

Initial Containment Conditions The initial containment conditions are identified on page 1-8 in Table 1.

They include a pressure of 14.7 psia; a temperature of 120 0 F and a relative humidity of 100%.

D.

Containment Spray System

1)

The containment spray signal is actuated when containment pressure reaches 10 psig in conjunction with a safety injection actuation.

2)

On page 1-27 in Table 12 it is indicated that the containment spray flow reaches the nozzles in 44.1 seconds from the time of pipe rupture, and full containment spray flow is established in 48.3 seconds.

This includes 10 seconds for the diesels to attain full operating speed; 10 seconds for the loading of the containment spray pumps; and 28.3 seconds to establish full containment spray.

3)

On page 1-9 in Table 2 it is indicated that the recirculation heat exchanger is a shell and U-Tube type.

E.

Fan Cooler System The Fan Cooler System is not taken credit for during a LOCA at San Onofre Unit 1.

F.

There are no other containment heat removal systems utilized at San Onofre Unit 1.

G.

On page 1-2 a discussion of the most restrictive single failure is provided.

That single failure is the loss of one recirculation pump.

-2 H.

Mass and Energy Release Data Mass and energy release data is provided on pages 1-15 through 22 in Tables 4, 5, 6 and 7.

II.

The requested information has been inserted on the following Figures I and 2 provided by the staff.

Figure 2 has been revised to remove the independent containment spray flow path.
