We have completed our review of your submittals relating to the potential for water hammer in the San Onofre, Unit 1 feedwater piping. Based on this review we have concluded that acceptable precautions are being taken to minimize the occurrence of steam generator water hammer in the feedwater piping.
As on additional prudent measure you will conduct a program to evaluate further the potential-magnitude of water hammers, define their effects on components of the feedwater system and identify appropriate corrective actions. We acknowledge your commitment to complete this program by September, 1980 and to submit the results for our review.
Our Safety Evaluation and our Consultant's report are enclosed.
