Enclosure PROGRESS ON SELECTED REGULATORY PROJECTS SAN ONOFRE UNIT 1 REVISION 7 Introduction The following is Revision 7 of the progress on selected regulatory projects at San Onofre Unit 1.
Long-Term Service Seismic Upgrading All significant NRC concerns regarding criteria and methodology for the program were resolved during meetings held the week of April 14, 1986. A site inspection was held on April 14 and 15, 1986. Modifications required to upgrade systems and equipment will be completed during the current outage.
Fire Protection SCE continues to finish the Fire Protection Modifications scheduled for completion prior to return to service. The modifications will assure compliance with Sections III.G, III.J and 111.0 of 10 CFR 50 Appendix R.
Additional information was provided by letter dated April 23, 1986 regarding III.G compliance. An NRC fire protection audit is scheduled for the week of May 19, 1986. Information regarding San Onofre Unit 1 Appendix R compliance was forwarded to the NRC consultant for the audit by letter dated April 18, 1986.
Environmental Qualification During the current outage, SCE is completing the replacement/upgrade of equipment for the Environmental Qualification Program. This work continues on schedule.
Third Train of Auxiliary Feedwater There have been no changes in the status of implementation of the third train of auxiliary feedwater. A third auxiliary feedwater pump is being installed during the current outage. The components being instal led during the outage will be considered non--safety related and are being installed primarily as part of the dedicated shutdown system for fire protection. The third pump will be upgraded and integrated as a third train of the auxiliary feedwater system during the refueling/backfit outage for Cycle 10 operation.
TDI Diesel Generators Inspection of diesel generator no. 2 in accordance with SCE's existing commitments to the NRC has been completed and the diesel generator re-assembled for pre-operational tests. A report on the results of the inspections of diesel generator no. 1, which were completed earlier, has been drafted and will be submitted to the NRC by May 9, 1986.
By letter dated April 17, 1986, SCE submitted its comments on the NRC's draft SER on TDI diesels.
-2 Control Room Habitability By letter dated March 28, 1986, Amendment Application No. 133 and descriptions of proposed modifications to the Control Room HVAC were submitted.
The Amendment Application provides proposed technical specifications to be used in operating the modified HVAC. The modifications to the HVAC will be scheduled in the next update of the SONGS 1 ILS.
Supplement 1 to NUREG-0737 The schedule for completion of the Control Room Design Review (CRDR),
Regulatory Guide 1.97 and Safety Parameter Display System (SPDS) Evaluation remains as delineated in the August 29, 1985 revision of the ILS.
The next scheduled NUREG-0737, Supplement 1 submittal will be the SPOS criteria on January 9, 1987.
