SEP TOPIC III-3.A, EFFECTS OF HIGH WATER LEVEL ON STRUCTURES SAN ONOFRE NUCLEAR GENERATING STATION, UNIT NO. 1 By letter dated October 20, 1983, you submitted an assessment report on SEP Topic III-3.A. This topic is related to the hydrological topics, II-3.A, B, B.1 and C. The staff's final safety evaluation on those topics was issued on August 27, 1984. By letter dated November 13, 1984, the staff issued its evaluation of the sea wall complex under tsunami and earthquake loadings.
Based on our review of the above letters, the staff concludes that Topic III-3.A is complete. The staff will address the following open issues in the integrated assessment for San Onofre Unit 1.
- 1)
Effect of probable maximum precipitation on rooftop integrity for the fuel storage and ventilation equipment buildings;
- 2) Capability of plant structures to withstand a short-term hydrostatic load from groundwater at plant grade.
