Mr. John B. Martin, Regional Administrator IE FILE CORV
Dear Sir:
Subject:
Docket No. 50-206 Upgrade of the Emergency Notification System (ENS)
San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station Unit 1
References:
A) June 19, 1981 letter from R. H. Engelken, USNRC Region V to L. T. Papay, SCE, ENS Upgrade B) January 22, 1982 letter from K. P. Baskin, SCE, to R. H. Engelken, USNRC Region V, ENS Upgrade Reference A provided the bases for the ENS upgrade and requested information relating to installing improved equipment, to the availability of power supplies, and to interconnect facilities.
Reference B provided the responses to these items. In response to one of the items, a review of the conduit and related cabling for the cableway to the Control Room was performed.
As indicated in Reference B, new conduit and cable, qualified per IEEE 383, will be installed. Reference B identified the schedule for installation of qualified cable to be coincident with the next scheduled outage. The purpose of this letter is to inform you that a review of this activity has identified that the replacement effort will be completed by March, 1985. Prior to installation of qualified cabling, the existing temporary cabling will ensure continued operability of the ENS.
As a redundant backup system to the ENS, the SCE Private Automatic Exchange (PAX) telephone system interfacing with the PAC-TEL system will ensure the availability of communication.
If you have any questions or desire additional information, please contact me.
