Docket No. 50 206, Post Shutdown Decommissioning Activities Report, San Onofre Unit 1 The purpose of this letter isto inform the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) of Southern California Edison's (SCE's) plans to submit an application for a site specific license for an Independent Spent Fuel Storage Installation (ISFSI).
In our July 6, 1998 letter (Reference 1) regarding future licensing actions for San Onofre, it was indicated that we anticipated submitting a request for a site specific license in 1999 to support the decommissioning of San Onofre Unit 1.
To assist the Nuclear Regulatory Commission in its budget and workload planning processes, SCE wishes to advise the NRC that, based on our current decommissioning planning, we now anticipate a site specific license application for an ISFSI in FY 2001. At this time we also anticipate requesting NRC approval of our application by the end of calendar year 2002.
This schedule is consistent with our Post Shutdown Decommissioning Activities Report which was transmitted to the NRC on December 15, 1998 (Reference 2).
