San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station, Unit 1 This letter provides our response to your December 5, 1990 letter which requests confirmation that our proposed Safety Parameter Display System (SPDS) will satisfy the design and performance criteria for sequence of events recorders as discussed in your letter dated September 3, 1985. We previously told you that the SPDS system will record several parameters which are also recorded on our existing events recorder. Since our existing events recorder does not meet all of the NRC criteria, the data to be recorded on SPDS could also be used to assist in a post trip review.
It is our intention to design the SPDS system to meet all the NRC performance criteria for sequence of event recording. We will submit a specific request for exception in the event that any of the criteria cannot be met. As scheduled in our July 12, 1989 letter, we will provide a submittal discussing the design criteria for SPDS at least six months prior to its implementation.
