Gentlemen:
Subject:
Docket 50-206 Safety Injection System Modifications San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station Unit 1 Our letter dated December 8, 1981 indicated that we have received proposals for SIS replacement valves and that we were in the process of reviewing the proposals. The purpose of this letter is to advise you that we have completed our bid evaluations, and as discussed in our December 8, 1981 letter, we have prepared a more definite schedule (see attachment A) for delivery and installation. This is based on receiving eight SIS valves and actuators from the Borg-Warner Corporation. The valves will be shipped to our site thirty-two and one half months after receipt of purchase order which will be issued imminently.
Qualification testing to current standards is assumed in preparation of this schedule.
The enclosed schedule reflects the following milestones:
- a. Engineering for valve replacement - completed December 1982
- b.
Vendor engineering - completed August 1982
- c. Material procurement and fabrication - completed August 1983
- d.
Valve testing and inspection - completed October 1984
- e.
Valve delivery - December 1984
- f.
Construction and startup testing - completed during next refueling Ao1 outage after (e) above (anticipated first half 1985).
In addition, as discussed in our December 8, 1981 letter, we have completed a conceptual study of the SIS to determine if a redesign is warranted. Based on the alternatives presented in our December 8, 1981 letter, alternative 4, Dedicated SI Pumps (schematic enclosed as Attachment B for information) has been selected for additional study to determine if a redesian is warrantirL.uao are, therefore, continuing with preliminary 8204070432 820330 PDR ADOCK 05000206 P
Mr. D.
March 30, 1982 engineering of accessibility, pipe routing, power requirements, etc., of this system. If we determine that a redesign is warranted, the necessity to replace the SIS valves will be considered as a part of the redesign effort.
We expect to complete the preliminary engineering phase of our study in July, 1982 and will notify you of our determination at that time.
If you have any questions or desire further information concerning the schedule discussed above, please contact me.
Very truly yours, Enclosures cc:
