BASKIN TELEPHONE MANAGER OF NUCLEAR ENGINEERING, (213) 572-1401 SAFETY, AND LICENSING May 29, 1981 Director of Nuclear Reactor Regulation Attention: D. M. Crutchfield, Chief Operating Reactors Branch No. 5 Division of Licensing U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, D.C.

20555 Gentlemen:

Subject:

Anchorage and Support of Safety Related Electrical Equipment San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station Unit 1 By letter dated March 25, 1981, we provided the status of our program for the evaluation of the anchorage of safety-related electrical equipment. The results of our analysis of equipment at grade elevation were provided in that letter. The purpose of this letter is to provide the results of the rest of the program.

The results of the analysis of equipment in the control room (items 13 through 25 and 46) are provided in Enclosure 1. The item numbers in this enclosure correspond to the numbers in the March 25 letter. All other items were addressed in the March 25 letter. As a result of the analysis, additional modifications were found to be required for process control racks R1 through R7, R10 and R11, the nuclear instrumentation system, radiation monitoring system, vital bus assembly, and CSAS logic Train A cabinets.

Modifications associated with these seven items are identified in Enclosure 1 and are scheduled for completion prior to startup from the current outage.

Subsequent to the preparation of the list of safety related electrical equipment in our March 25, 1981 letter, we initiated a detailed review of electrical equipment at San Onofre Unit 1 to ensure the completeness of our anchorage evaluation program. As a result of this review, we have identified several additional items which will be evaluated as part of our anchorage program. These items are listed as items 48 through 59 in. The analyses for items 48 through 51 have been completed. As a result of these analyses, modifications have been identified for the pressurizer heater distribution cabinets as shown in Enclosure 1. These modifications will be completed prior to startup from the current outage. The analyses for items 52 through 59 are scheduled for completion by June 1, 1981. An onsite inspection indicates that the anchorage of these items appears adequate and that no modifications will be necessary. However, if the analyses of these items indicate that modifications are necessary, we plan to implement them as soon as practicable.

D. M. Crutchfield, Chief May 29, 1981 Our March 25 letter also identified a punch list of non-seismic Category I auxiliary items which required further evaluation to determine if they would damage safety-related electrical equipment. The results of these evaluations are identified in Enclosure 2. Modifications identified in Enclosure 2 are scheduled to be implemented prior to startup from the current outage.

If you have any questions on this matter, please contact me.

Very truly yours, Enclosures
