Docket No. 50-206 Adequacy of Station Electric Distribution system San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station Unit 1 By letter dated July 15, 1982 we provided the results of calculations regarding the adequacy of station electric distribution system voltages at San Onofre Unit 1. As indicated in that letter, maximum over-voltage conditions of 12% on the 4.16 kV buses and 22% on the 480 V buses were calculated. We committed to initiate a voltage monitoring program with the next plant startup and based on this monitoring to implement changes to the transformer tap settings.
As a result of further discussions with the NRC staff we have decided to take additional action on this matter. Specifically, a study will be performed to optimize the transformer tap settings. The optimization will minimize the over-voltages while ensuring sufficient voltage under minimum voltage conditions. The revised tap settings based on these studies will be implemented prior to startup from the current outage.
We will also perform the voltage monitoring program identified in our July 15, 1982 letter and advise the NRC staff 90 days following startup from the current outage of the results of the monitoring program.
