Gentlemen:
SUBJECT: NRC INSPECTION SAN ONOFRE UNITS 1, 2 AND 3
This refers to the inspection conducted by Mr. J. E. Russell of this office on
August 1 through 11, 1988, of activities authorized by NRC License Nos.
DPR-13, NPF-10 and NPF-15 and to the discussion of our findings held by Mr.
Russell with Mr. McCarthy and other members of your staff on August 11, 1988,
at the conclusion of the inspection.
Areas examined during this inspection are described in the enclosed inspection
.report.
Within these areas, the inspection consisted of selective
examinations of procedures and representative records, interviews with
personnel, and observations by the inspector.
No items of noncompliance with NRC requirements were identified as a result of
this inspection. However, your attention is directed to paragraph 6 which
documents several instances of failure of personnel to comply with health
physics safety requirements. We have noted your actions to correct this
situation and will monitor your efforts during subsequent inspections.
In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790(a), a copy of this letter and the enclosure
will be placed in the NRC Public Document Room.
Should you have any questions concerning this inspection, we will be glad to
discuss them.with you.
