APPENDIX A NOTICE OF VIOLATION Southern California Edison Company Docket No. 50-206 San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station License No. DPR-13 Unit.1 During an inspection conducted on February 29 through March 4, 1988, a violation of NRC requirements was identified. In accordance with the "General Statement of Policy and Procedures for NRC Enforcement Actions," 10 CFR Part 2, Appendix C (1987), the violation is listed below:
A. Technical Specification (TS) 6.12, High Radiation Area, reads in part:
"In lieu of the "control device" or "alarm signal" required by paragraph 20.203(c)(2) of 10 CFR 20, each high radiation area in which the intensity of radiation is greater than 100 mrem/hr but less than 1000 mrem/hr shall be barricaded and conspicuously posted as a high radiation area and entrance thereto shall be controlled by requiring issuance of a Radiation Exposure Permit (REP)...."
Contrary to the above, on March 1, 1988, a high radiation area behind Steam Generator "A" on the 31' elevation of the Unit 1 containment in which the intensity of radiation ranged up to 200 mrem/hr was not barricaded and posted as a high radiation area.
This is a Severity Level IV violation (Supplement IV).
No response to this violation is required based on the prompt corrective action taken.
