U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, D.C. 20555 Gentlemen:

Subject:

Docket No. 50-206 Return to Service Plan Criteria for Walkdowns of Small Bore Piping San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station Unit 1 Our letter dated December 23, 1983 provided the details of our return to service plan for the seismic reevaluation program. The acceptability criteria which were developed as part of this plan, included field walkdowns of small bore piping and tubing. The NRC evaluation of this item was provided by letter dated February 8, 1984.

In order to accomplish this item, a specific walkdown team responsible for all small bore piping walkdowns has been identified.

This will ensure consistent application of the walkdown criteria. The specific criteria which will be used for the field walkdowns and small bore piping evaluations are provided as an enclosure to this letter.

If you have any questions or comments on our approach for the small bore walkdowns, please let us know as soon as possible.

Very truly yours, Enclosure 0641 0____
