SPENT FUEL STORAGE RACKS San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station, Unit No.
R On June 30, 1983, a prompt report was submitted to the Administrator, Region V, NRC, regarding the spent fuel pit storage racks at San Onofre Unit No. I. Th'is rpport stated that two, upper lateral braces were found to be bent and not irntontact with the east spent fuelhpool wall.
in addition,, this report indicated that formal calculations verified that tChe storage racks meet the seismic design criteria specified in Section 9.2 of the San Onofre Unit No. 1 FSAR in the "as loaded" condition with two' bnt braces; however, the storage racks in the "fully loaded4 condition would not meet the FSAR seismic criteria..
Pending your resolution of this matter including what measures will be taken to resolve this situation, within 30 days of the receipt of this letter please provide the calculations of the seismic adequacy of the IAs loaded" spent fuel racks for our review.
The reporting and/or recordkeeping requirements contained in this letter affect fewer than ten respondents; t,herefore, 0MB clearance is not required under P.L.96-511.
