The subject line is a 6-inch schedule 10 ASTM 312 Type 304 stainless steel line. This line is also used to fill the refueling cavity during refuel ing outages.

A visual inspection of the containment spray line revealed an accumu lation of boric acid crystals on a portion of the line. Dye penetrant examina tion of the suspect area revealed the presence of both linear and rounded indications.

We intend to perform further examination and inspection on this line in an effort to determine the extent of the problem and to initiate appropriate corrective action prior to the plant's return to service in mid-February, 1977.

A complete report on this matter together with a Licensee Event Report form will be forwarded within two weeks.
