SUBJECT:

REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION, SAN ONOFRE NUCLEAR GENERATING STATION, UNITS 2 AND 3 (TAC NOS. 73734 AND 73735)

The staff is reviewing your 10 CFR 50.59 evaluation of the.deviations of the installed configuration on EQML N-E1O series Foxboro transmitters from the as-tested configuration. We find that we require additional information to complete our review. Please provide responses to the following concerns within 30 days of your receipt of this letter.

1. Are the two types of deviations identified in your evaluation - namely, the lack of low point drain holes and improper orientation - the only deviations from the as-tested configuration? Have you thoroughly inspected to confirm that there are no other deviations? Specifically, did the as-tested configuration include terminal blocks in the junction boxes?
2. Provide your schedule for correcting all non-conforming installations to meet the as-tested configuration.

Sincerely, original signed by Donald Hickman Donald E. Hickman, Project Manager Project Directorate V Division of Reactor Projects - III, IV, V and Special Projects Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation cc:
