SUMMARY
OF MEETING TO DISCUSS SEISMOLOGY AND GEOLOGY OF THE SAN ONOFRE SITE On December 15, 1978, members of the NRC staff met with the applicants in Bethesda, Maryland to discuss the above subject. Attendees at the meeting are listed-in-.- The agenda for the meeting is given in.. At the meeting, the applicants presented mater-ial that is to be incorporated into the FSAR in response to staff question 361.33., The slides presented by the applicant are also given in Enclosure 2.
At the conclusion of the presentation.by the applicants, the staff commented on the material. presented and suggested that in their submittal, the appli cants should (1) clearly define and substantiate all of the conservatisms in their evaluation, (2) provide studies to show the sensitivity of the results to variations in parameters such as slip rate, (3) provide the detailsof the geological basis (e.g., well log data) for the slip rate assumed, (4) estimate the degree of uncertainty in resolution of the slip rate, (5) provide the basis for extrapolating the acceleration distance relationship to a distance of 10 km, and (6) show the conservatism of the distance valves used in the data used to correlate acceleration with distance.

Acceleration-time histories were scaled to 0.75g.
All severity comparisons were then made with the DBE.
B Acceleration-time histories representing some of the high magnitude events (greater than M 6.5) with high maximum acceleration values (equal to or greater than 0.2g) were scaled to 0.67g, and peaks between 0.67g and 0.75g were added as recommended by the MOAA.
The peaks were added in the 0.67g interval, and were so placed that abnormal velocities or displacements did not occur.
C Record conditioned to remove the effects of topography.
Procedure used was similar to the one suggested by Boore (1973).
