The following RAI changes and decisions resulted from the conference calls held on 17-18 December 2012, regarding TAC No. ME6818, DAECs adoption of NFPA-805:

Fire Protection Engineering RAI 13 Fire Protection Engineering (FPE) RAI 13, item c, as it appears in an email message of November 8, 2012, sent 4:03 PM from Karl Feintuch to Laura Swenzinski, is modified as a result of the conference call on 18 December 2012 to be:

c. The Transition Report stated that the design will be based on FAQ 08-0046 (ADAMS Accession No. ML093220426) and will meet the FAQ guidance such as: sensitivity, equipment voltage restrictions, and fast versus slow acting devices in regard to fire growth. In light of your revised approach to not use FAQ 08-0046, describe how the application of an incipient detection system will be integrated with this revised approach (NUREG 6850 Appendix L, credit for defense in depth only, etc.).

For reference purposes the changes in text are described below:

The Transition Report stated that the design will be based on FAQ 08-0046 (ADAMS Accession No. ML093220426) and will meet the FAQ guidance such as: sensitivity, equipment voltage restrictions, and fast versus slow acting devices in regard to fire growth. In light of your revised approach to not use FAQ 08-0046, However, the FAQ 08-0046 was not written for panels in the Control Room D describe how the application of an incipient detection system will be integrated with the this revised approach (NUREG 6850 Appendix L, credit for defense in depth only, etc.) the requirements of FAQ 08-0046.

The following RAI items originally appeared in an email message of December 5, 2012, sent 12:23 PM from Karl Feintuch to Laura Swenzinski:

Probabilistic Risk Assessment (PRA) RAI 06.01 (and others, where understanding locations is important to understanding your responses)

To support the conference discussions DAEC supplied a sketch which would be helpful to include with your RAI responses and consider incorporating the following improvements:

1. Account for labeling of areas, rooms, doorways, features in the text of your responses with the same labeling on your sketch.
2. To simplify locating features that you discuss, consider adding a map grid (one alpha axis and one numeric axis) so you can refer to located at sketch position B-4 type descriptions. This may be valuable where exact labeling is impractical or where you are referring to different parts of the same room or different areas with the same name.

Before transmitting your response to us review your sketch and descriptions for sensitivity marking if they meet appropriate criteria.

PRA RAI 08.01 In part a. delete the third paragraph beginning and ending with: This is not a stated guidance would not be met.

PRA RAI 11.01

  • A revision to part a. will be forthcoming when released.

2

PRA RAI 31.01 For your response please review Table G-1 and supply all MSOs for CIVs.

PRA RAI 35.01

  • A revision will be forthcoming when released. The revision replaces sensitivity analysis with analysis PRA RAI 47.01 Change the text to address typos and incorrect reference:

In part c. the reference should be to Section 3.5.2.2, as in the items preamble. The citation of 3.5.5.5 is erroneous.

In part d. fevelopment should be development.

PRA RAI 69 All references to sensitive electronics should be to electronics 3
