Mr. Dru Buntin (DNR) to ULNRC-05933 Page 1 CALLA WAY PLANT, UNIT 1 2011 STEAM GENERATOR TUBE INSPECTIONS ENCLOSURE 1 REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION (RAI) RESPONSES to ULNRC-05933 Page 2 Question #1 Please discuss the results of your plug inspection. Regarding the secondary side inspections in the steam drum area of SG B and SG C, please discuss whether any degradation was identified.

Callaway Response Visual inspections were performed on the pre-existing welded plug in SG A (tube 13-109). No issues were noted.

Visual inspections were performed in the steam drum of SG B & SG C. No degradation was detected in either SG. The only anomaly noted was a buckled screen sector in SG B. Specifically, two buckles were noted on one of the loose-parts trapping screen sectors (the sector directly below the feedwater nozzle at the top of downcomer.) According to plant records, these two buckles were pre-existing and not new.

Question #2 On page 2 ofthe report, it is indicated that the X-probe was used to acquire data on both the hot-leg and cold-leg from the tube end to I-inch above the first tube support plate, in all four SGs. The report also states that the data would be analyzed for both hot-leg and cold-leg, from 3-inches below the top of the tubesheet to I-inch above the first support plate. Table 1 on page 3, however, indicates that only the hot-leg data was analyzed and that only data from 3 inches above to 3 inches below the top of the tube sheet was acquired. Please clarify.

Callaway Response Initial plans were to perform eddy current X-probe examinations on both the hot-leg and cold-leg in all four SGs. Due to unanticipated issues during the outage, cold leg examinations were cancelled in order to expedite outage schedule. AREV A Acquisition was required to run Array probes from the first Tube Support Plate (TSP) to tube end hot (OIH+ 1" to TEH); however AREVA Analysis Group only analyzed from the first TSP to the top of the tubesheet minus 3 inches (OIH+ 1" to TTSH-3"). The affected table is updated and included below:

Callaway Response IDC is inside diameter chatter. Chatter signals can occur in a tube at any location and typically appear as uniform horizontal noise signals.

SPT stands for "support" and is the code used to identify wear from the anti-vibration bar (A VB) bundle supports or positioning devices. It is also referred to as V -shaped support pads or "Appui".

Question #4 For the 20 percent random sample of dings that were performed on each SG, please provide the minimum voltage threshold used for screening.

Callaway Response The reporting threshold for dings (DNG) was >=2.0 volts. Any previously reported DNG >=1.0 volt was required to be reported again. In order to have sufficient DNG population to inspect with a rotating pancake coil (RPC), a minimum voltage of 1.0 volt was used if the applicable SG did not have enough 2.0 volt DNGs. A summary of each SG is as follows:

Callaway Response The 33 tubes identified in the Table below had been identified as having non-nominal tube sheet drill hole diameters. All tubes were inspected with +Point' during the pre-service inspection (PSI) which did not detect any degradation. A random 20% sample was inspected during Refueling Outage 18 using both +Point' and Array which is required per EPRI SG Examination Guidelines. No degradation was detected.

Please verify these numbers, as Table 3 is noted to contain an axial length and circumferential extent greater than these values.

Callaway Response The text located under Table 3 contained an error. Table 3 is correct and accurately reflects the maximum circumferential extent as 56 degrees and the maximum axial length as 0.81 inches.

Question #7 Table 3 provides a listing of tube support plate wear indications; please provide a similar table for all anti-vibration bar indications.

Callaway Response All tube support plate (TSP) wear was inspected with RPC to acquire axial and circumferential measurements. All TSP wear identified was new and it is noted that there were fewer TSP indications than A VB wear. Enclosure 2 summarizes the following for A VB wear in all 4 SGs:

SG, Row, Column, Location, current percent through wall (% TH), and previous % TW if any Question #8 There appears to be a significant increase in the number of wear indications at the tube supports and anti-vibration bars. Please discuss any insights for these increases. Please discuss whether the growth rates of these indications have increased or decreased.

Callaway Response A total of 623 bobbin probe wear indications (589 A VB wear and 34 TSP wear) were detected during Refueling Outage 18. Of these, 531 indications were new (497 AVB wear and 34 TSP wear). The number of indications and maximum percent through wall (TW%) has increased since the first in-service inspection (lSI). This is expected when comparing three cycles of operation to only one cycle.

The A VB wear growth rates are shown to be decreasing from the last inspection by about 50%.

Additionally, the growth rates for A VB wear bound the growth rates associated with TSP wear which show TSP wear growth rates less than 5%TW per EFPY.
