Site : BRUNSWICK Emergency Class : NON EMERGENCY OFFSITE NOTIFICATION TO NATIONAL MARINE FISHERIES SERVICES (NMFS)
"On May 7, 2012, a Kemp's Ridley sea turtle was retrieved from the 1A circulating water pump intake trash rack. There were no visible signs of injury or abnormalities and the condition of the turtle indicates that the death was recent. Therefore, the lethal take has been attributed to plant operations.
Notification to the NMFS was completed at approximately 1115 EDT. This non-emergency notification is being made pursuant to 10CFR50.72(b)(2)(xi) due to the notification to NMFS."
The licensee notified the NRC Resident Inspector.
Notified both R2DO (Seymour) and the Endangered Species Group via e-mail.

"Follow-up from the North Carolina Sea Turtle Coordinator from the lethal turtle take reported from the Brunswick Plant on 5/7/2012 at 1417. The turtle from 5/7/2012 was initially identified and reported as a Kemp's Ridley Sea Turtle. Further picture identification by the North Carolina Sea Turtle Coordinator indicates that the correct species is a Green Sea Turtle."
Notified both R2DO (Seymour) and the Endangered Species Group via e-mail.
