OF THE APRIL 26, 2012, OPEN HOUSE PUBLIC MEETING TO DISCUSS NRC ACTIVITIES, NUCLEAR POWER ISSUES, AND THE DUANE ARNOLD ENERGY CENTER 2011 END-OF-CYCLE PLANT PERFORMANCE ASSESSMENT On April 26, 2012, an open house public meeting was held at the Palo City Hall/Community Center, Palo, Iowa, between the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and the Duane Arnold Energy Center management and staff. The purpose of the open house meeting was to provide an opportunity for the public to discuss NRC activities, nuclear power issues, and Duane Arnold Energy Center performance for the period of January 1, 2011, through December 31, 2011. The NRC letter and meeting notice for this open house can be found in the Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) as ML12093A387 and ML12093A303 respectively. A list of the Open House attendees is listed below.

The public meeting discussed an overview of the NRCs Mission and Performance Goals, the Reactor Oversight Process (ROP), and national ROP results. The NRC discussed other agency regulatory activities such as nuclear security and nuclear waste. The NRC also discussed the Japan Nuclear incident, the NRCs actions post the Japan incident, and the NRC orders and information request as a result of the incident.

The NRC also provided discussions related to the NRCs assessment of the Duane Arnold Energy Center performance, which was documented in the March 5, 2012, End-of-Cycle Assessment Letter (reference ADAMS Accession Number ML12065A028). As part of this open house, NextEra Energy was available to address questions and concerns. Slides used to describe the NRC's ROP process and Duane Arnold Energy Center 2011 performance can be found in ADAMS under ML12115A322. Throughout the open house, members of the public were given the opportunity to ask questions of NextEra Energy officials and NRC officials.
