McGuire Nuclear Station Unit 2 Docket Number 50-370 Relief Request 12-MN-001 Withdrawal By letter dated January 3, 2012, Duke Energy submitted Relief Request (RR) 12-MN-001 for the use of an alternative to the examination requirements of ASME Code,Section XI. This RR supports the examination of reactor vessel hot leg and cold leg nozzle-to-pipe welds performed from the inside surface during the McGuire Unit 2 fall 2012 refueling outage.
On February 27, 2012, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff electronically requested additional information regarding this RR, including a concern with the past industry practice of adding the difference between the Performance Demonstration Initiative procedure qualification Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) and the ASME Code required RMSE to the depth of measured flaw. The industry and NRC staff met on March 16, 2012 to discuss the RMSE issue. Duke Energy hereby withdraws this RR to incorporate the information requested above. Duke Energy will submit a replacement RR in the near future.
