Duke Energy Carolinas, LLC McGuire Nuclear Station, Units 1 and 2 Docket Nos. 50-369 and 50-370 Response to NRC Request for Additional Information dated December 21, 2011 Regarding NRC Bulletin 2011-01, "Mitigating Strategies" On May 11, 2011, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission issued NRC Bulletin 2011-01: Mitigating Strategies. The purpose of this Bulletin was to require licensees to provide comprehensive verification of compliance with 10 CFR 50.54(hh)(2) and to request information associated with licensees mitigating strategies per 10 CFR 50.54(hh)(2) in light of the events at Japan's Fukushima Daiichi facility. The NRC required licensees to submit a written 30 day response from the date of the Bulletin followed by a written 60 day response. McGuire submitted the 30 day response by letter dated June 6, 2011 followed by the 60 day response on June 30, 2011.

By letter dated December 21, 2011, the staff issued a Request for Additional Information regarding McGuire's 60 day response to the subject Bulletin. Attachment 1 provides the response to this request. The attachment addresses measures that are currently in place with regard to compliance with 10 CFR 50.54(hh)(2) and contains Security-Related information that should be withheld from public disclosure in accordance with the requirements of 10 CFR 2.390.

There are no new regulatory commitments in this letter.
