RE: Peach Bottom SRV drawings and specs Hi Scott, I was expecting their input on Tuesday, but it did not show up. I have a call in to the Exelon contact to status where they are in getting us the information. I will let you know when he responds.

RE: Peach Bottom SRV drawings and specs Thanks John. I have asked the other team members about what to expect if there will be any additional requests. I'll get back with you on that asap.

Have you heard anything regarding the fact check activity? When they may be able to provide anything back to us, etc.?

RE: Peach Bottom SRV drawings and specs

Scott, Thanks for the additional details. The descriptions of the needed information are very clear and specific. The licensee should have no trouble understanding exactly what we are looking for.

However, I still need a response to the question I asked in the attached e-mail regarding scope before we are ready to engage the licensee with this unexpected information request.

Also, how is this request related directly to SOARCA? I'm sure that the licensee will be confused as to why we are asking for more information when the SOARCA report has been peer reviewed and they are finishing up their fact check. Peach Bottom only agreed to participate in the SOARCA development. This request appears to be something beyond that.

Thanks and please feel free to give me a call with any questions, John John Hughey NRR/DORL/LPL 1-2 Peach Bottom Project Manager 301-415-3204 From: Elkins, Scott Sent: Wednesday, May 05, 2010 2:54 PM To: Guzman, Richard; Hughey, John Cc: Schaperow, Jason; Tinkler, Charles

FW: Peach Bottom SRV drawings and specs Rich/John, I'm forwarding the content of two e-mails that better clarify what it is we are asking for regarding the main steam line SRVs at Peach Bottom. I have combined these inputs below:

We are interested in detailed drawings of the PB main steam pilot operated safety relief valves, we need drawings which show the details of the internal geometry and components and materials, including the main valve, disc, piston and spring etc.

and the pilot valve, pilot port and vents etc. We understand the valve to be a Target Rock valve design. Any drawings or information which is proprietary will be protected as such.

1. In addition to the detailed design drawings, we anticipate that a description of how the valve actually operates will be necessary. We can usually infer from the drawings how the valves work, but we would rather have correct information than rely on our assumptions.
2. In addition to knowing the names of the materials used in the valve, any information about the actual condition of the material will be necessary. In other words, what are the strength and stiffness of the various materials used? Any information about heat treatment would be helpful. For the polymer materials used, what are their elastic properties?
3. This may be included from the information supplied in #1 above, but a detailed description of how the valve is loaded will be necessary. Specifically, where are the pressures applied, and how is the valve affixed to the adjacent piping?

Please contact me if additional information or justification is needed for this request.

RE: Peach Bottom SRV drawings and specs Hi Jason, To supplement Charlie's request, I think the following information will be needed:

1. In addition to the detailed design drawings, I anticipate that a description of how the valve actually operates will be necessary. We can usually infer from the drawings how the valves work, but I'd rather have correct information than rely on our assumptions. These pilot valve mechanisms can get somewhat complicated.

In other words, what are the strength and stiffness of the various materials used? Any information about heat treatment would be helpful. For the polymer materials used, what are their elastic properties?

RE: Peach Bottom SRV drawings and specs Hi Howard, Do you have anything to add to Charlie's write-up below on what information we need on the Peach Bottom SRV?

DE folks can elaborate more if needed - I do not believe we need performance history unless they have performance data at very high temps (800K)

Charlie, Can you help me be more specific so that NRR can follow-up on this request? As I see it we are just interested in the main steam line safety relief valves that are installed at PB. If performance history is available do you want that too?
