UNITED STATES NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION WASHINGTON, D.C. 20555-0001 March 30. 2011 LICENSEE:
NextEra Energy Seabrook, LLC (NextEra)
FACILITY:
Seabrook Station, Unit No. 1 (Seabrook)
SUBJECT:
SUMMARY
OF FEBRUARY 18, 2011, PUBLIC TELECONFERENCE WITH NEXTERA TO DISCUSS EROSION TESTING TO BE PERFORMED IN SUPPORT OF DEBRIS INTERCEPTOR ANALYSIS (TAC NO. MC4716)
On February 18, 2011, a Category 1 public teleconference was held between the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and representatives of NextEra at the NRC Headquarters, 11555 Rockville Pike, Rockville, Maryland. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss NextEra's planned, Seabrook-specific, erosion testing being performed to support debris interceptor analysis. This analysis is in support of the licensee's efforts with respect to Generic Safety Issue 191, "Assessment of Debris Accumulation on PWR [Pressurized Water Reactor]
Sump Performance." The information presented by NextEra was made available prior to the meeting in the Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) under Accession No. ML110480290. A list of attendees is included in the Enclosure.
The meeting was opened with a discussion of differences in the testing to be performed. The changes were being made to more accurately simulate the expected conditions at Seabrook.
Following this discussion, the NRC staff had some questions regarding the velocity of the water assumed and how it was applied to the debris mass. The NRC staff did not identify any major flaws with the testing as presented.
Following the discussion, the meeting was opened to members of the public. No questions were received.
