WATTS BAR NUCLEAR PLANT, UNIT 2 - REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION REGARDING MITIGATION STRATEGY ASSESSMENTS AND CLOSURE PROCESS FOR PHASES 1,2, AND 3 (TAC NO. ME4967)

Dear Mr. Bhatnagar:

By letter dated October 14,2010, Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) submitted its commitments to meet the requirements of Section 50.54(hh)(2) of Part 50 of Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations (10 CFR) for Watts Bar Nuclear Plant, Unit 2. In this regard, TVA must develop and implement guidance and strategies intended to maintain or restore core cooling, containment, and spent fuel pool cooling capabilities under the circumstances associated with loss of large areas of the plant due to explosions or fire.

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff has reviewed the information provided by TVA, and has concluded that additional information is needed to complete its review The details regarding the information requested are in the enclosed request for additional information (RAI)

In accordance with 10 CFR 2.390, the enclosed RAI contains Official Use Only - Security Related Information and will not be available electronically for public inspection in the NRC Public Document Room or from the Publicly Available Records component of NRC's Agencywide Document Access and Management System Should you have any questions concerning this meeting, please contact me at (310) 415-1457.
