Dear Mr. Braun:

The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, Division of Land Use Regulation, acting under Section 307 of the Federal Coastal Zone Management Act (P.L.92-583) as amended, has reviewed your letter dated August 18, 2009 and accompanying information for the renewal of the Operating Licenses for Salem Generating Station Unit 1 and Salem Generating Station Unit 2 (Salem) from the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission. The license renewal would allow Salem to continue operations through August 13, 2036 for Unit 1 and April 18, 2040 for Unit 2.

Based on the above, the 'Division has determined that the project is consistent with New Jersey's kules on Coastal Zone Management N.J.A.C. 7:7E-1.1 et seg, as amended to April 7, 2008, and the applicable Rules guiding issuance of a Section 401 Water Quality Certificate.
