By letter dated July 17, 2009, Arizona Public Service Company (APS) submitted a request for relief from the requirements of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code,Section XI, for the Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station (PVNGS), Unit 1. The proposed relief request, RR No. 46, would provide relief from those requirements for the Unit 1 second 10-year inservice inspection interval that APS has determined to be impractical.
The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff has reviewed RR No. 46 and has determined that the information specified in the attached draft Request for Additional Information (RAI) is needed for the staff to complete its evaluation. In order for the staff to complete its review in a timely manner, we request that you submit your response to the enclosed RAI by April 16, 2010. Please contact me if APS would like to have a conference call to discuss the draft RAI.
