SUBJECT:

PPL Susquehanna, Units 1 - ACCEPTANCE OF REQUESTED LICENSING ACTION RE: Relief Requests RR-07 and RR-08, Extension of Testing Interval for MS SRVs (TAC NOS.

ME2629 and ME2888)

By letter dated November 20 and December 10, 2009, you submitted relief requests RR-07 and RR-08, respectively, for the NRC approval to extend the test interval beyond 6 years for Main Steam Relief Valves PSV141F013A, C (RR-07), and F (RR-08) until next refueling outage for Unit 1 in March 2010. The purpose of this communication is to provide the results of the NRC staff=s acceptance review of these relief request. The NRC Staff provided verbal authorization for Relief Request RR-07 (TAC No. ME2629) on November 20, 2009. The verbal authorization is documented in ADAMS Accession No. ML093240496.

The acceptance review of both requests was performed to determine if there is sufficient technical information in scope and depth to allow the NRC staff to complete its detailed technical review. The acceptance review is also intended to identify whether the application has any readily apparent information insufficiencies in its characterization of the regulatory requirements or the licensing basis of the plant.

The NRC staff in Component Performance & Testing Branch (CPTB) of Division of Component Integrity (DCI) have reviewed your applications and concluded that it does provide technical information in sufficient detail to enable the staff to proceed with its detailed technical review and make an independent assessment regarding the acceptability of the proposed amendment in terms of regulatory requirements and the protection of public health and safety and the environment. If additional information is needed for the staff to complete its technical review, you will be advised by separate correspondence.

If you have any questions, please contact me.
